Therapeutic Support for Parents in Cambridge
Parenting can bring deep joy—but also emotional strain, guilt, and moments of doubt. As a qualified 🔗Child and Teen Psychotherapist with over 30 years of clinical experience, I offer specialist support for parents who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected in their relationship with their child or teenager.
You may feel confused by your child’s emotional responses, trapped in patterns you swore you’d never repeat, or uncertain how to help them through anxiety, anger, or withdrawal. These experiences are more common than you think, and therapy can help.
Beyond Quick Fixes: Understanding Deeper Patterns
Rather than offering generic parenting strategies, this work explores the emotional roots of your parenting experience. We gently reflect on your early attachment relationships—how you were parented, what emotional messages you absorbed as a child, and how those patterns may now shape your responses as a parent.
This process builds insight, emotional regulation, and connection, laying the foundation for more attuned, secure relationships with your child.

Mentalization-Based Family Therapy (MBT-F)
I am trained in 🔗Mentalization-Based Family Treatment (MBT-F), developed by the Anna Freud Centre. This short-term model (usually 6–12 sessions) is designed to support families in better understanding one another’s emotions and intentions.
MBT-F is especially effective for:
-
Reducing conflict and emotional outbursts
-
Improving communication and mutual understanding
-
Building empathy across family members
-
Deepening bonds through shared reflection
Sessions often combine discussion with creative or interactive activities, making it accessible for children, teens, and adults alike.
When Parent Therapy Can Help
I work with parents of children from toddlerhood through to young adulthood, offering one-to-one or family sessions based on your needs. Support may be particularly valuable when you’re experiencing:
-
Persistent conflict or distance from your child
-
Feelings of shame, helplessness, or overwhelm
-
Reactions from yourself or your child that feel “too big”
-
The effects of past trauma, grief, or loss on your parenting
-
Parenting challenges linked to neurodiversity, divorce, or co-parenting
Together, we create a non-judgemental, confidential space where insight can lead to meaningful change—both for you and your family.
