Child Behaviour Specialist Near Me – Cambridge Therapies

Child & Teen Therapy in Cambridge

As a Senior Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience, I provide skilled, compassionate therapeutic support for children, teenagers, and families across Cambridge and the UK.

I am registered with the UKCP, BACP, and HCPC, and have worked in NHS settings, statutory services, schools, and voluntary organisations. I have also trained and supervised other child therapists through my work at Cambridge University and the Institute for Arts in Psychotherapy and Education (IATE), London.

My approach is grounded in attachment theory, psychoanalytic understanding, and the creative arts, offering children and adolescents a space to make sense of their feelings in developmentally sensitive ways through words, play, image, or metaphor.

Supporting Emotional Development in Young People

I work with children aged 3 and up, through to older teenagers and young adults, helping them explore what may be troubling them and find emotional language and resilience in the face of life’s challenges.

Therapy can support children and young people experiencing:

  • Anxiety, sadness, anger, or emotional overwhelm

  • Withdrawal, shutdown, or difficulty expressing feelings

  • Family breakdown, parental separation, or bereavement

  • School avoidance, bullying, or exam stress

  • Identity struggles around gender or sexuality

  • Neurodiversity and difficulty navigating social environments

  • Low self-esteem, shame, or body image issues

  • Emotional fallout from trauma, abuse, or early adversity

  • Ongoing stress due to illness, disability, or discrimination

Many children and teenagers find it difficult to put their thoughts into words. That’s why I offer creative and symbolic ways of working—including drawing, play, storytelling, music, and sand tray—to help them safely express what’s difficult to say directly.

A Space That’s Respectful, Safe, and Non-Judgemental

I aim to create a therapeutic relationship where young people feel accepted as they are—without pressure or expectation. This space helps them begin to understand and process their experiences, build emotional resilience, and gain a sense of agency over their world.

I offer a warm, inclusive practice, with additional experience in supporting LGBTQ+ youth, neurodiverse children, and those impacted by complex family dynamics or social inequality.

Working Collaboratively with Families

For younger children, therapy often includes parental support, helping caregivers understand what their child may be communicating emotionally and how best to respond. I work collaboratively with parents while maintaining a safe and private space for the child.

Sessions are available in person in Cambridge or online for adolescents and families across the UK.
