My Therapeutic Approach

Attachment-Based Therapy and Counselling in Cambridge

At the heart of the therapy I offer is a safe, confidential, and emotionally attuned relationship—a space where you can feel fully seen, heard, and accepted without judgment. From this secure foundation, we can begin to gently explore the challenges that may be troubling you, and start finding meaningful, lasting ways forward.

As a UKCP, HCPC, and BACP-registered psychotherapist based in Cambridge, I provide therapy and counselling for adults, teens, children, and parents. Many people have never experienced a relationship where they feel deeply understood. Experiencing this in therapy can be profoundly transformative—offering new perspectives on who you are, how you relate, and what you need in order to thrive.

Issues Therapy Can Help With

Attachment-based therapy in Cambridge can be especially helpful for individuals dealing with:

  • Anxiety, including constant worry, overthinking, or fear of judgment

  • Depression, low energy, or emotional numbness and disconnection

  • Low self-esteem or self-confidence, especially shaped by early experiences

  • Stress related to parenting, work, relationships, or school

  • Sleep difficulties linked to emotional tension or chronic stress

  • Emotional overwhelm and challenges with self-regulation

  • Past trauma or attachment disruptions affecting current relationships

Together, we’ll bring compassionate attention to the emotional patterns that may have developed over time—understanding their roots, loosening their hold, and discovering new ways of relating to yourself and others. Therapy offers a place not just to reflect on the past, but to practice new ways of being in the present. With time, this can lead to lasting emotional change, renewed confidence, and a deeper sense of wellbeing.

An Integrative and Creative Process

In addition to being an attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapist, I am also an HCPC-registered Arts Therapist, offering creative approaches for those who prefer or benefit from non-verbal forms of expression.

Sometimes our deepest emotions can feel hard to articulate. Using creative tools can help give shape and voice to what feels unclear or unspeakable.

Creative exploration may include:

  • Working with postcard images or symbolic objects

  • Exploring metaphors, dreams, or storytelling

  • Placing items in a sand tray

  • Listening to meaningful music

  • Engaging in simple visual or movement-based techniques

These approaches can offer deep insight, especially when working with trauma, shame, or a harsh inner critic. For many clients, this adds a gentle but powerful dimension to the therapeutic process.

Mindfulness and Self-Compassion

I also draw on mindfulness and compassion-focused practices to support emotional regulation, particularly when a person has experienced criticism, shame, or neglect. These tools are evidence-based and can be incredibly helpful in managing anxiety, stress, and low self-worth.
